Why You Need to Stay at Tiger Woods #Golf Villa and Play Doral

Tiger Woods and Donald Trump have formally cut the ribbon to the new Tiger Woods Villa at Doral Golf Resort. Rory McIlroy wanted to be among the first guests to stay (and play...at this week's WGC Cadillac Championship). Here is why you may or may not want to!

Tiger Woods Golf Villa

Rory McIlroy may like the room decor at the new Tiger Woods Villa but he doesn't necessarily like his view.  "I can't go to the bathroom without looking at you," McIlroy texted to Woods, bummed out that, no matter where he walks throughout the suite, there are pictures of Tiger in every room.

So far, only exterior pictures are available of the Tiger Woods Villa at Trump Doral but, according to TripAdvisor.com, people who stayed at the TW Golf Villa at Oro Valley rate it "a Tiger Woods hole-in-one."

Trump National Doral Miami

Formally known as the Doral Country Club, the club was purchased by the Trump Organization in 2011. The Club is home to five championship courses, the most famous of which is the Blue Monster, home to the World Golf Championship Cadillac Golf Tournament. This course has been totally redesigned by new owner Donald Trump in an attempt to make the course more challenging and exciting to all golfers. Well, now it is being called by PGA.com writer Doug Ferguson, the "familiar place no one recognizes."

Image of the former Doral course - courtesy of post406

Is this a good thing? Well, if you enjoy watching The Donald's helicopter fly back-and-forth onto a helipad by the 10th hole, I guess you might like the redesign - it's all a typical Trump creation.

New trees, greens, bunkers tees, fresh turfgrass and a huge practice green are among the improvements made by Mr. Trump, to the tune of $200 million...in addition to the $150 million used to purchase the golf property.

In 2009, the Blue Monster course joined the prestigious PGA Tournament Players Club and was renamed as The TPC Blue Monster at Doral.  Donald Trump recently told the PGA that his plans for the par-72 golf course included extending the first hole by 100 yards and turn the 15th hole into an island green.

So, after the hoopla of the WGC Championship has ended, vacationers who want to play the new and improved Doral and book the Tiger Woods Villa can fly to Miami, Florida to partake in a little winter sun. Playing fees range from $190-$450, depending on the season and which course you choose to play.

Trump Doral easy to get to?

London - Miami
·         The average flight time from London to Miami is 8 hours 30 minutes
·         The cheapest flights can be found in March, whereas the most expensive are in July
·         The Trump National Doral MiamiResort is close to Miami International airport

Don't just go for the golf - enjoying the Miami climate makes this vacation destination a winner!

Being named the Sunshine State, you can assume that Florida receives an impressive amount of sunshine during the year and enjoys a warm climate. However the weather does vary from north to south Florida - during the summer months the south can get exceptionally humid and almost uncomfortably warm, and the north tends to be milder but still hot.

During the summer months of June-August temperatures tend the reach around 30-35 degrees Celsius, which can be uncomfortable to play 18 holes. Try making Florida an off-season destination, November-May - temperatures can dip as low as 17 degrees Celsius but also climb to 25 degrees Celsius.

Tips Tiger Woods Should Use From His Book How I Play #Golf

Tiger Woods golf book
Tiger Woods, one of the greatest golf superstars every to play the game, came out a few years ago with the book, "How I Play Golf". Perhaps Woods should re-read the contents or create an update entitled "How I Should Play Golf ."

Several writers have analyzed Tiger's 2014 game, especially after his horrendous performance at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Golf for Beginners has selected several golf tips from "How I Play Golf" which we hope will be helpful to Tiger Woods in light of his recent shortcomings.

Lack of Practice - Jim McCabe mentioned on GolfWeek that, "because of his age, injury history and custodial duties as a divorced father, there's no way he can practice and prepare himself like he used to, when he was in his 20s or early 30s." Tiger, please refer to page 205 which states, "When you're on the Course, all that hard work starts to pay off."

Unprepared- Golf Week's Jeff Rude stated that Woods was unprepared for his season debut with Rude quoting Golf Channel Analyst Chris Chamblee as saying, "The golf swing I saw today looked like a 55-year-old man out there." OUCH!

So what is Tiger to do to improve his overall swing? Tiger, please refer to page 85 where you sat down, watched and analyzed your recorded swing and then commited to change. As Woods states, "The goal is to have a repeatable swing that is mechanically sound, repeatable, works with every club in your set and holds up under pressure."

Tiger Woods Farmers Open Golf
Too much muscle -Hank Haney, on his radio show, expressed disdain for Tiger's muscle gain believing that, "when he was thinner and younger he was actually faster." ...hmm remind you of David Duval?

Instead Woods should work on stretching more than building. Tiger's advice in Chapter 11, "I don't know how much stretching Sam Snead does, but I'm told he is one of the most flexible athletes ever."

Mental Game Adjustment - After his poor showing at the Farmers Insurance Open, Woods said, "There was nothing different with my ball-striking today (Tuesday) compared to last Saturday."

..."It was just one of those days that happens, and it was one of the trains I just couldn't get off." Woods needs more visualization, less anger. In Chapter 10, Woods states, the key is not letting distractions affect your performance."I refuse to yield to pressure," argues Tiger.

Finally, it would be helpful for Tiger Woods to remember, as it says right in the beginning of his book under "First Things First", "Golf is a never-ending journey. Before we begin, we should look at where we've been."

Is the Tiger Woods, Mickelson Battle for TV #Golf Supremacy Finally Over?

With Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson debuting their PGA Tour golf games at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, fans are anxiously awaiting the Battle of the Tried-and-True Superheroes ...or are they?

Online conversations are conflicting about where the most TV action will come from this week- Golf Channel's Facebook page has a proud Tiger Woods accepting his 2013 Player of the Year Award along with Jordan Spieth (Rookie of the Year) with Woods contemplating a new entrant onto the battlefield, "It's going to be fun for a number of years battling it out," Woods was quoted as saying at the ceremony.

With Spieth and Woods teeing off with Jimmy Walker on Thursday, this pairing could most certainly turn into a future Sunday moment...although both Woods and Spieth have their work cut out for them with a pair of even scores on day one.

Expert picks mainly have Tiger Woods as the golfer providing the most action and as the winner this weekend but Woods and Mickelson, "the two biggest stars of their generation" as Fox News aptly states, may not be the only attractions worthy of prime TV time....could Stewart Cink be the man to watch?

Two long hitters, Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson, will certainly give viewers the action they seek as they tee-off along side of Aussie Jason Day. You can always expect a few fireworks from both left-handed golfers - Mickelson nearly chipped in from the parking lot to make birdie at eighteen while Watson had some chip action of his own on hole number two at Torrey Pines' North Course.

You never know when a new battle will brew or the excitement will kick up a notch - Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are both great golfers but new rivalries can happen in a heartbeat to create an infusion of excitement into the sport.

Without picking Woods and Mickelson, which golfer do you think will provide the most drama at Torrey Pines this year?

Why You Should Play Golf Without a Driver

If you find your driver to be erratic at times (and who doesn't), the next time you play a round of golf why not consider leaving that new Nike Covert VR S or Callaway X Hot Pro at home? Why not just tuck it away in the trunk of your car you may ask

golf ironsSwinging well at the driving range and feeling super confident, you just might be tempted to grab the Big Head instead of sticking to a plan and playing your round with the other thirteen clubs in your bag, maybe adding another hybrid or wedge to the mix.

The great Ben Hogan said, "Golf is not a game of good shots... It's a game of bad shots." He further commented, "You only hit a straight ball by accident. The ball is going to move right or left every time you hit it, so you had better make it go one way or the other."

With a driver in hand, the chances of hitting your shot more wayward than intended could mean the difference between edge of the first cut of rough and being in the woods so, why take the risk during every round?

Whether you are a golf beginner or more experienced amateur, regularly hitting wayward shots with a less-than-reliable club doesn't enhance your time on the course and allows negative thoughts to creep into your mind and into your game.

Instead of attempting to regain composure after hitting a bad driver shot off of the tee, Golf for Beginners offers a few benefits to leaving your driver at home.

1. A better chance to get ball in fairway:

If your driver is erratic, you certainly don't want it to cost you strokes during a round of golf...and it will! If your three, five-wood or even  longer iron gets you into the fairway, practice with your driver off-course and play with your go-to clubs during the round.

Tiger-Woods_2013-Open

When Tiger Woods was asked after his second round on Muirfield how many times he used his driver up to that point in The Open he exclaimed, "I hit about eight to 10..." finishing his deadpan comment with, "on the range." The result was a tie for the lead going into the weekend and with Woods being "in a good spot."

2. Confidence booster: You have to admit that, when your golf ball lands safely in the fairway, you feel ready, and eager, to tackle the next shot...you look forward to it!

3. Chance to Practice Longer Approach Shots: With the driver out of your bag, you will be pressed to use different golf clubs to get down to the green. A three-wood on the tee will leave a longer approach shot so dust off the hybrids (which are easy and fun to hit!)

4. More fun: Playing golf should be fun, whether you are out in a foursome or in a tournament. Wouldn't it be great to beat your buddies knowing that you didn't need your driver to win? It's also a great talking point for the 19th hole!

Tiger Woods the Sexiest Golfer at 2013 British Open?

If you watch enough golf, you'll hear or read EVERYTHING, including a recent survey from a website where women have selected Tiger Woods as the Sexiest Golfer at the 2013 British Open!

No, I am not a proponent of infidelity but a press release was sent to Golf for Beginners by the site Victoria Milan, Europe´s original discreet social network, which asked members who they believed to be the hottest golfer at The Open and, out of over 3,225 cheating ladies, Tiger Woods came in first with 27% of the votes. Adam Scott was a close second with 25% of the votes and Sergio Garcia held the third position with 14% of the ladies.

Tiger Woods Sexiest Golfer at The Open

Tiger, it is believed, earned his rank based on his history of high-profile infidelity. Woods' divorce from Elin received worldwide attention and is notorious as one of the most expensive break-ups the world has ever seen.

Considering Tiger's "bad-boy" image and the site's penchant for infidelity, I wonder how Adam Scott got to 2nd place...oh yes, that was his finish in the 2012 Open ;-)  And Sergio? Another bad boy but, certainly not tops on the sexy list of golfers IMO.

Company founder and CEO Sigurd Vedal stated:

“It makes perfect sense that golf captures the senses of cheaters! The quiet tension builds hole by hole until it's broken by wild applause, and the 19th hole parties are legendary. And, of course, the sport itself represents luxury and opulence. Our members are definitely going to be found in the British Open crowd!”

*Results of the Survey conducted 3225 female members.

Tiger Woods 27%
Adam Scott 25%
Sergio Garcia 14%
Luke Donald 11%
Justin Rose 9%
Graeme McDowell 6%
Nicolas Colsaerts 3%
Phil Mickelson 2%
Ernie Els 2%
Rory Mcilroy 1%

Should Tiger Woods be flattered by this distinction?

Why De Rigueur Tartan is Fashion Forward Golf Clothing for The Open Championship

Scots call the pattern Tartan and use it ceremoniously as a symbol of Scottish history and pride; Americans named it Plaid while taking on a lighter approach to this centuries old textile weave.

Both sides of the Pond do agree that, when it comes to golf, Tartan is a must-have fashion statement for players at The Open Championship.

From the ever spiffy Ian Poulter who has themed his golf clothing and his brand, IJP Design, around the tartan pattern to European Team Captain Paul McGinley who has graciously added his personal touch to a specially-made model to commemorate the 2014 Ryder Cup, tartan has made its way from a Gaelic lineage to a cultural phenomenon.

You might even spot Tiger Woods wearing the bold pattern on the golf course one day as Nike has recently registered its own Tartan "Clan Colors" in May at the BMW PGA Championship

The Nike Golf clothing range of tartan fashion includes everything from the expected Nike Golf shorts and pants to Nike Tartan Golf Bags!

Tiger Woods plaid
Too casual for Tiger Woods on the Golf Course but okay at the NBA Finals

With The Open Championship announcing "Thursday is Tartan day", the majority of players will be dressed in the Tartan pant.

This Nike Golf Plaid Pant in Squadron Blue is a good example how a player can not only look good on the golf course but feel comfortable during the entire round. A lightweight, Dri-Fit fabric combined with an understated design provides function and fashion wow:

Is Golf The New Bad Boy Sport?

Remember when bad-boy behavior was unacceptable in golf and high moral standards separated golf from the rest of the sports world? Throwing a golf club, obscene language or spitting into the cup (Sergio) just wasn't tolerated.

Support for Tiger Woods seems to be back on the "Pro" side now that he has a few golf tournament wins under his belt but does "Winning (Really) Take Care of Everything"? Does Nike hope that revealing a bit of "naughty" along with his wins in their marketing strategy will get Woods' problems out into the open and actually expel them from his life?

By now you've seen Tiger Woods sassing it up with Rory McIlory, rumbling with Arnold Palmer and you've most likely read about the new found happiness shared with Lindsey Vonn but is the new Tiger Woods image brand-build working...are you liking Tiger Woods again?

In the case of Tiger Woods, and with other athletes who have suffered problematic situations (think Kobe Bryant), advertisers take a few steps back, wait for a rebound, an apology to fans perhaps and watch for the sports celebrity's new lease on life...and all is forgiven in the advertising and branding space.

In a recent TMZ.com poll, almost 75,000 fans were asked if "Winning Cures All" and fifty-five percent said "YES!"

Tiger Woods

Lewis Blackwell "begs to differ", stating that "winning is never enough" and "it needs to be dirtied up a bit."

"You have to win brilliantly, or win dirty, or win tragically, win sexily," claims Blackwell, "or lose with style and a sob story. For heaven's sake, don't win normally and expect acclaim."

Fans now adore Woods cheering him on three-deep at golf events, a new lease on life is on the horizon, the great Arnold Palmer is sharing laughs and co-starring with TW in videos and Jack Nicklaus is defending Tiger's Masters decision and opening up once again about Woods ...not like before, when Tiger was, well...toxic,

"I've said it, and I continue to say it, that I still expect him to break my record." said Jack Nicklaus recently. "I think he's just too talented, too driven, and too focused on that."

Tiger Woods is just now beginning to rebuild his commercial life but does winning really cure all?

Which Golf Drivers Are Best For Beginners?

Titleist D3 Driver
After trying some of the hottest drivers from the new Nike VR_S Covert to the latest Titleist 913D3 at the Westchester County Golf Show, it is apparent that these golf clubs were not necessarily created for golf beginners but for players who have had a bit of experience connecting with the ball (think Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy).

That being said, Golf for Beginners compiled a short list of drivers and golf clubs that are easier for beginners to feel confident about using on the golf course.

Although golf equipment guides throughout the internet rate the overall best golf drivers for 2013, which golf clubs should make its way into a beginners bag? Here are several choices newbies should consider before making this all-important purchase.

Callaway Golf XHot 3Deep1. Although not a driver, the Callaway X Hot 3Deep Fairway Wood is a great alternative for golf beginners who are not quite ready for a driver but want the distance associated with it. Phil Mickelson wanted a club that was playable off the ground and easy to hit in lieu of a driver, hence the #3Deep was born. Watch for the Callaway X Hot 3Deep at The Masters inside Phil's bag.

2. The Ping G20 Driver is stable, has a low center of gravity and, as Golf Digest mentioned in a Hotlist review, "It exudes compassion...In a word, they’ve designed confidence." Confidence is just what a beginner needs!

The Ping G25 Driver, like it's G20 predecessor, is the new Ping entrant tested by Golf Magazine and is considered very forgiving and hits very straight.I tried it and liked the light weight. Some golfers (me included) noted that the head might be a little too large...and, with it's three-way adjustability feature, the G25 just might confuse beginners.

3. Cobra AMP Cell Drivers were rated easy-to-play on the golf course, super-accurate with impressive yardage. Some guys who tested it for Golf.com even thought that the color "encouraged proper alignment at address". Beginners... always remember to G.A.S.P. before hitting any shot...one of my beginner lessons.

Cobra Amp Cell Drivers

This is, by no means, the definite beginners guide to the best golf drivers currently on the market, just suggestions meant to encourage newbies in a burgeoning market filled with golf clubs of all shapes, sizes and adjustments.

When searching for a driver, beginners should consider "game-improvement" drivers, the loft of the golf club giving thought to head size, grip, shaft length and flex. As a beginner, I would stay away from adjustable heads or any other adjustments (neutral, open face, etc), until you are more comfortable hitting the club and forge a better understanding of your game.

And yes, these clubs DO come in left-handed models!

Is Tiger Woods Rory McIlroy's Pressure Relief Valve? #golf

With a Monday weather-related finale at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Tiger Woods has once again become the number-one golfer in the world. Fans are joyful but players...not so much unless, of course, you're Rory McIlroy.

NBC Final Round notes from Bay Hill included a compelling quote from the cantankerous Johnny Miller about a possible improvement in Rory McIlroy's game after Woods' victory, "Maybe that will actually help Rory McIlroy by taking the heat off him being number one and set him free again."

Rory McIlroy_Tiger Woods

So, although Tiger Woods may now be scaring the field once again, he might actually be putting McIlroy's mind at ease, allowing young Rory to sharpen his game and his new Nike VR golf clubs, from VR-S Covert driver to VR Pro Blade Irons.

McIlroy skipped Bay Hill this week, choosing a casual round at a local muni to butting heads with Woods. Perhaps Rory prefers building his confidence instead by playing the "lesser of two evils", Phil Mickelson, at the Shell Houston Open this week?

Although a fifth Masters is not assured for Tiger, Joe LaCava, Woods' caddie, says there is definitely "more confidence" in his short game and putting. Graeme McDowell seems to have put the entire Woods-McIlroy battle in perspective. “Rory’s been No 1 for a while and having this kind of challenge will definitely gear him up. When you’ve achieved many of your goals, your motivations disappear and this will help him refocus.”

Golf Galaxy has teamed up with Nike to bring golfers across the country the Nike Covert Distance Challenge.

Nike VR_S Covert DriverEvery weekend (Friday through Sunday) in March, Nike gurus will be in-store to deliver club fittings. Golfers of all levels are invited to bring in their existing driver to test against the new Nike VR_S Covert Tour

Just by participating in a fitting, the golfer will be given a free sleeve of Nike 20XI golf balls. If the golfers make a Nike VR_S Covert purchase, they’ll receive a demo trial pack of 20XI, 20XI-X balls and RZN X balls (1 dozen total).

As I am not located near a Golf Galaxy, I, unfortunately, cannot take advantage of the Nike Covert Distance Challenge but I would love for you to post your thoughts and experiences about the new Covert and about Nike in general in our comments section below.

What to Wear If You Are Playing in The Masters #golf

With The Masters on the radar of sports and fashion enthusiasts worldwide, I received a note filled with "fashion picks" from Function 18, a UK-based golf apparel website which promises the same cutting edge look and performance as the professionals on Tour. That being said, here are Function 18's selection of who will be the most chic Masters golf apparel trendsetters.

  ***************

With excitement now building for April’s Masters Tournament, we are taking a look at some of the most stylish players taking part in this year’s event with golf fashion experts “Function 18. We’ve weighed up their golf swings and statistics, but which of this year’s players will win in the Masters Style stakes?

Ryo Ishikawa

Ryo Ishikawa
Watch out for Japan’s Ryo Ishikawa at this year’s event, known for his bold and stylish outfit choices whilst gracing the greens. Although his style may not be everyone’s cup of tea, it’s a breath of fresh air to see this young player experimenting with colours and prints - we’re big fans of his signature red and white ensemble.

Bubba Watson polo
Bubba Watson
We are keen followers of Bubba Watson's exciting and aggressive style of play! At this year's Masters, having signed a new clothing contract with Oakley, we will see him with a variety of new looks to suit his playing style.
Function 18 stocks a wide range of Oakley clothing, including a range of items Bubba himself has been spotted in, including this great Oakley Fade Polo shirt from only £32.99.

Jason Day
The stylish young Australian is definitely a key player to watch in this year’s tournament; in fact, it will be pretty hard to miss Jason Day on the Augusta fairways. Contracted to wear the bold and bright
Adidas Fashion Performance collection, we’re looking forward to seeing him wear some of the key pieces from the brand’s new spring/summer collection.

Ian Poulter
Ian Poulter
Ian Poulter’s attitude to fashion is always fun and playful. He continues to wear his own IJP Design collection which focuses heavily on the tartan trousers, but his recent Puma shoe and belt deal has seen him showcase some of Puma’s bright, eye-catching products. Past style choices have seen him team bright yellow puma golf shoes with green check trousers; we certainly have to commend him on his confidence! Function 18 has a great range of Puma and IJP Design products are available if you want to try and re-create Ian Poulter’s interesting look. And, be sure to check out his limited edition Masters Putter Cover.

Tiger Woods
Never one to disappoint in the Majors, Woods' look is always clean-cut, fresh and modern. With young Rory McIlroy snapping at his heels, Tiger still remains a great style ambassador for Nike and his signature plain polo shirts and traditional neutral golf pants are an easy look for spectators to try themselves. Look out for red on the last day!

Rory McIlroy
Originally not one to stand out for his golf fashion, it will be interesting to see if McIlroy's new £120 million Nike sponsorship deal will give him a boost in the golfing style stakes. The Nike clubs don’t seem to be helping his game much but we have already seen him in some exciting brown/green colour combinations and we can’t wait to see more. (editor's note...with Rory McIlroy's game being compared to Tiger's at every tournament, now we can compare clothing too!)

Rory McIlroy

How The Donald Trumps Golf This Week

This week both the WGC Cadillac Championships and The Puerto Rico Open are being hosted by the one and only resilient Donald Trump at two of his incredible golf courses: “The Blue Monster” at Doral and Trump International.

It is truly difficult, it seems, not to watch news of Donald Trump everywhere you look nowadays...

A Google Search finds him as popular a sight in the WWE (where he will be inducted into the Hall of Fame) to his recurring (and prolonged repetitive) show, The Apprentice.

This week, Trump does double-duty at two golf extravaganzas and, with it, invites almost all golfers with a tour card to “be his guest.” Okay, neither Doral nor Trump International are Disney-land but, to fans, they might as well be!

Two full field events with the top golfers in the world providing ample opportunities for birdies and bogeys, but (in my opinion) with the WGC Cadillac Championship getting the viewing edge as Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy go head-to-head once again.

Also, with news of The Donald’s plans to “blow-up” The Blue Monster in order to make it a “much more magnificent course” as Mr.Trump stated, will fans want to get in one last look for comparison’s sake?

Tale of the Tape: Trump International vs Doral Golf Resort’s Blue Monster via Twitter:
Current Posts about this week’s events at both Trump International Tweets and Doral Golf Resort’s Blue Monster show many more conversations about WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral than Tweets about Puerto Rico Open. Here is a sample:
